Incorrect Hotel Instructions
Filed Under photos | Leave a Comment
On a recent trip to Turkey, I was stranded on my return trip through Germany and ended up in an airport hotel in Frankfurt, Germany. This instruction card by phone was grammatically correct except for wake up call section. Here is card next to the telephone
The incorrect part reads
Press the button “ALARM” and then just enter your wanted time.
The correctly written sentence should be
Press the “ALARM” button, then enter your desired wake up time.

external exit?
Filed Under photos | Leave a Comment
Here is another picture from my trip to Nagano. It reads
Please put your shoes on at the external exit.
Since the sign is by the exit, it would better to write this as
Please put your shoes on outside the exit.

Import Magazine?
Filed Under photos | Leave a Comment
On a recent shopping trip to Costco in Kanazawa, Japan, I saw this sign which read “Import magazine“. I immediately realized this is not a magazine titled “輸入雑誌 Import Magazine” but magazines published outside of Japan. So, the sign should read Imported Magazines.

At the same Costco, I saw this sign attached to a big globe. It reads
指を挟まないようにお気をつけください。Please watch your finger.
It would read better as
Caution: Watch your fingers.

Yodobashi Camera Mistake
Filed Under Business (ビジネス), photos | 2 Comments
I went shopping at Yodobashi Camera in Yokohama the other day. Yodobashi is one of the largest electronic stores in Japan, similar to Best Buy or Circuit City. Now I would have thought that their signs would display the correct English translation, but I found a mistake in one of their signs which in Japanese is 格段清算のお願い商品のご清算は各階にてお願い致します。 In the pictures it reads
Please pay the price for article in each floor.
but it should read Please pay for each article on it’s floor.
